Reflections on Christmas: a day to celebrate all of God’s promises

This year had probably been the most chilled out and stress-free Christmas I’ve had freed from a lot of pressure of consumerism and expectations. Normally Christmas can be a pretty painful and seemingly lonely time for me where my immediate family are on another continent, and where I have no nuclear family of my own. It’s easy for me to try to compare myself with ideals of those with family and have huge gatherings of feasting, fun and gift giving; often causing me to question how loved or cherished I really am.

God’s Promise to Me

But as I reflect on the story of Christmas, God has shown that He has consistently been faithful. When God first changed my heart towards Him, He not only promised me that He would love me unconditionally, in spite of how much I hated Him all my life, through the work of His Son on the Cross, but He adopted me as His own child into His family.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us inthe Beloved. (Ephesians 1:3-6, ESV)

By God’s grace and promise, I’ve never been lonely. He’s not only given me the promise of His Son and the promise of His Spirit to be with me all the days of my life, but He’s shown me His love through the blood bought family, the church. And through the family He has placed me with, they have shown God’s faithfulness to me and have always made sure that I have people to celebrate the coming of His Son on Christmas.

God’s Promise of His Son

This Christmas, I have been thankful that God has been so faithful to show me His love through His family here in Squamish. I am in wonder that I get to serve a God who is faithful to keep His word and to keep His promises. I am in wonder that He kept His promise to send His Son to earth for the hope and salvation of many, and the Gospel to many. And more over, that through His Son He continues to hold fast to so many more promises that He reveals through His Holy Word, the Bible.

How are the Christmas seasons for you? What promises and truths do you hold on to in order to dig into its true meaning?
